snowy willow walkGreetings from snowy Oxford! The students are enjoying a wintry willow walk and (along with the staff) snowballs in the car-park this week. We trust this update finds you well. We have had an excellent start to 2009 and sense God is speaking to us about this being a year of 'crossing over' into new places. Please do keep in touch and send us stories of what you are up to along with ideas about what you'd like to read about here ...              Every blessing, Simon.

Church Planting Training Day

We recently linked up with the UK Salt and Light year teams to discuss the practicalities and challenges of church planting with Jeremy & Jo Bray, Rich Colbrook, Mark Mumford and others.  It's been great to link up with the year teams for these practical training days.

Accreditation Update

We have sent off newly produced documentation with our application for accreditation, which has been received well.  The next stage involves an on-site inspection which should happen in the next couple of months. Accreditation will enable us to act as a student visa sponsor for International students in line with new UK legislation which takes effect later in the year.
Thank You!
Finance Update

Since our last email, thanks to many gifts from individuals and churches we are a lot closer to meeting our costs for the current financial year. Praise God for that, and thank-you for your support in the various forms that takes, it really does make a difference.

These are obviously challenging times financially and we still require further support to fulfil all God is calling us to. So, if you would like to partner in the development and growth of KBCTC we would be very grateful! We are excited about where God is taking us and want to ensure that we continue to train many disciples to make a difference in the world. Every penny you give helps towards this goal.

Ways to Give

'When the Kings Come Marching In: Isaiah and the New Jerusalem' by Richard Mouw
Review by Dave Perry

Books on theology and culture are all the rage. Nearly weekly, Amazon touts a new book dealing with the question: What is the relationship between the cultures of mankind and the kingdom of God? Do art, technology, commerce, literature, songwriting, etc. have any validity in the eyes of God?

Will there be bookshops in the new earth?

Richard Mouw is a professor of philosophy at Fuller Theological Seminary. If you are interested in the kingdom and culture question (will there be cinemas in the new earth?), then this little book (131 pages) is a good place to start. Mouw sees in Isaiah 60 the prophet's vision for God's restored world. He notes details there like redeemed and transformed commerce, craftsmanship and architecture, and a wide ethnic diversity and richness. Whether Mouw proves his case must be left up to the reader. Exegetically, I find him very persuasive. Anyway, I hope he is right. No coffee shops in the New Jerusalem? Phooey.

 Month of Prayer

students praying

Please join with us in praying for students for the 2009/10 academic year as we set aside the month of February as a college to pray and fast.  We feel provoked prophetically to pray for students from mainland Europe in particular, who will take back the heart of KBCTC to their countries and could be involved in setting up similar initiatives there.

We are now accepting applications for September. Experience tells us that you are our best advertisements! Take a minute now to think of someone you know who might be interested in coming and let them know about us this week.
Church Planting near Warwick Castle...
Simon and Amy Cox (2003/04)

Before going to KBCTC, we lived in Didcot, Simon worked as a product manager for an IT company, and I (Amy) worked as a hairdresser and horse riding instructor (bizarre combination I know!). We finished bible college in June 2004. During that time, God spoke clearly to us about a lot of personal things in our own lives, and also about church planting in the future. Since then, Simon has changed career and works as an editor for Monarch Books, part of Lion Hudson, a christian publishing company. I am in my final year of an Open University degree so I can become a teacher, and currently work as a learning mentor to young people with emotional difficulties.

In January 2007, we moved with Jeremy and Jo Bray, also graduates of KBC, and a small team of others, to plant a church in Warwick. Since the official launch in April, the original 8 of us have grown to around 30. We run a house group in Leamington Spa, and believe that God has called us to start a church there too. We volunteer at a secular youth club where we have been invited to run a youth Alpha course. Despite obvious challenges, we are having an amazing time, and consider ourselves really privileged to be involved in what God is doing in the sunny Midlands!
