Housing

House PageCollege houses are a significant part of our community life together. They are a great way to get to know people deeper and support one another throughout the course of the 10 months you will be growing with God. It is said that 10 months of KBCTC is equivalent to 10 years of spiritual growth, so it’s brilliant to be living with people who will walk out this experience with you.

To this end, college directly owns and leases properties throughout West Oxford. Spaces are limited, so apply early to ensure yourself a room. Part of the rationale for having the houses is to be able to offer affordable rent in Oxford. This means we are usually able to set our rental prices significantly below the market average for Oxford.

How it all works

We will let you know if you have secured a place in a KBCTC house when we confirm your place in college, but at this stage we will not be able to let you know which house you will be in. Room allocation happens in July, and houses are single sex, apart from those in which married couples are placed.

By early July, we will get in touch with you with details of how many people you’re sharing with, where the house is in relation to the college/town/other houses etc. You will then be required to pay one month's deposit.

What’s in the Houses?

The houses are fully furnished with kettles, toasters, pots and pans, crockery and have bed linen and towels etc. In order to bring a little bit of home, you may want to bring your own linen and personalise your space with posters and pictures and a favourite mug.

The houses do not necessarily have Internet, so if you decide that you would like this, you will have to arrange this between you and your housemates.

Families

Families can be accommodated in college housing if you apply early enough, but we will need to have more detailed discussions about what may need to be provided. Please liaise with the college administrator about your special requirements once you have been offered a place in a house.

What to Do If You Are Not Successful

Not all students are guaranteed a place in a KBCTC house, and if so, as there are normally a few students in a similar position, we can help you to find a property to suit your needs (furnished or non-furnished etc.) and offer suggestions about how to go about this. If we write to tell you that you have not been successful in securing a place in a house, we will give you further information about how we can help and what you can do to find accommodation in the Oxford area.
